Gig Harbor Lighted Boat Parade

One of our favorite holiday traditions is paddling during the lighted boat parades. There are many to choose from here in the Pacific Northwest, this year we stayed close to home and attended the Gig Harbor Lighted Boat Parade rather than heading to Seattle for The Argosy Cruises Christmas Ship Festival. We were joined by a couple of Michelle’s friends, Trisha and Susan, who are new to the sport of kayaking. We provided them with fully decorated kayaks loaded with 200 battery operated Christmas Lights each. We launched moments before sunset and the skies were filled with broken clouds which gave a dramatic backdrop to the romantic and warm lights of the harbor and the festive lights on the boats.

We circled around the Harbor checking out the boats and ran in to a few other kayakers that had decorated their boats and paddles. We were invited to join the parade, so we fell in behind the power boats and became part of the festivities ourselves! The evening weather was perfect, mild temperatures, the wind was calm, and the water was glass like. After two tours around the Harbor with the boats we headed back to the cars our souls recharged and our hearts warmed.
