Best budget kayak paddle, a real sleeper, don’t overlook this one!

"I own many kayak paddles, cheap low end to expensive high end and in between. I have tested lots of budget paddles as part of working at an outfitter. This Skagit CF (carbon fiber) paddle has got to be the best there is among the budget friendly options, I bought it because I wanted something more durable for Ozark streams and rivers that have rock and gravel hazards. As compared to the competition, this paddle is stiffer (very little flex for a plastic bladed paddle) and better balanced. It has a blade slightly smaller and narrower than the Camano, and pulls through the water very easily. This paddle swings effortlessly without feeling like it is overly heavy in weight - some other paddles with nylon reinforced blades that are made by other companies feel “blade-heavy”, but not this one. I was also happy that Werner decided to use their Smartview ferrule connection too, makes it all that much better. It may not be the least expensive paddle on the market, but if you ever try this paddle next to other cheaper options, you will realize how good quality and well-designed it really is. Werner hit a home run on this paddle, very durable and easy on the shoulders, while being affordable too."

Good Enough Paddle

"I've had a Skagit CF paddle for two, going on three, years ow and I'm pleased with it. I fish from my kayaks, and durability is key for a paddle. I've pushed off from river snag, used it to "pole" over gravel bars, and had to use it to pry myself off a reef when a wave pinned me to it. I can't speak to flat-out speed, but when using the Skagit, I can troll for ocean salmon at 2+ MPH for several miles before I need to slow down to give my arms a rest. I had one problem with it when the ferrule stuck together and I needed help to pull it apart. A one-time spray with dry silicone lubricant fixed the problem and it hasn't again happened since then. There are more expensive paddles, there are lighter weight paddles, and there are prettier paddles, but the Skagit CF does what I want it to do, it does it well - and it came in handy in a sticky situation. I recommend them."

Great starter paddle

"I bought this paddle when I first bought my kayak. It's a great paddle for when you get started. Not too heavy, durable when you need to push off an obstacle. I read the other review here and all I can say is, there is no lever to push on to lock the paddle in place. It's a simple as twist to align for your offset and push. I did have a little trouble after many uses of it not wanting to go together smoothly, but then I read about "forehead grease". Just rub your fingers on your forehead then apply to the ferrule. Viola, problem solved. I upgraded to a lighter weight paddle as after 13 mile paddles my shoulders were tired, but I would recommend this paddle for shorter distances or areas where you may need to push with the blade."

Superb recreational paddle

"I'm extremely happy with my paddle purchase. I'm new-ish to paddling and didn't want to make an expensive investment in a paddle. At least not yet. But I don't foresee myself giving up my Skagit CF. It feels great in my hands ( I got the small shaft), and is so stable and light. After a long day of paddling, I didn't suffer from any fatigue at all. My boyfriend purchased the Skagit FG. I let him try my paddle out, and he immediately noticed a difference and is coveting my paddle! I highly recommend this paddle to someone that appreciates good quality and design, but needs to maintain a budget."
